Ovid Elsie Primary Care

Name: Sara Deringer-Kohorst, PA-C (she/her/hers)

Address: Ovid Elsie Primary Care, 9900 W M-21, Ovid, MI 48866

Phone: 989-834-2243

Email: SDeringer-Kohorst@memorialhealthcare.org

Services: Primary Care Provider for Pediatrics and Family Medicine. Services provided include general medical care of infants through adults, including preventive well visits, management of acute and chronic conditions, diagnostics, and prescriptions. I have extended interests in thyroid disease, Rheumatology, and transgender health care, including hormone treatment.

Notes from Provider: In Shiawassee county where I practice there are limited health resources that I feel are LGBTQA affirming and compassionate. There is no one that my group is aware of in the county currently addressing or providing HRT other than myself. I have some amazing patients that helped guide me into this passion project. To help someone realize their true self and keep them healthy while doing so is one of the greatest gifts of my work. I admittedly have a lot to learn, but bridging health discrepancies and increasing access for a group that is traditionally marginalized and underrepresented is something I find great purpose in.

Zoe Steinfield, Child and Family Charities - Gateway Youth Division

Pronoun & Credentials: (she/her/hers), Clinical Supervisor at the Kevin Moody Youth Home for runaway and homeless youth

Phone: 517-882-7217

Organizations: Child and Family Charities, NASW, Queering Medicine

Website:

Email: zoe@childandfamily.org

Services: Therapy (Motivational interviewing, Solutions-Focused, TF-CBT, Mindfulness, Narrative)

Notes on Insurance: The Gateway Youth Division's programs are grant-funded, but the Behavioral Health Division of CFC provides therapy to the public and takes public insurance, private insurance, and offers a sliding scale for uninsured clients.

Note for transgender clients accessing medical transition (coordinating care with other providers, writing HRT or surgical referral letters, following WPATH standards of care, informed consent, etc.)

I do the following: coordination of care, writing letters for medical treatment, increasing access to informed consent providers, advocating for the population's needs through trainings.

The Kevin Moody Youth Home is increasing emphasis on showing respect for LGBTQIA+ people in materials given to new residents. Our team is visibly diverse with respect to these and other identities and we set the tone for any new direct care staff to be affirming. We will continue to provide in-services to staff and residents to keep it a welcoming environment.

Notes from Provider: I have had trainings related to creating affirming schools, SUD treatment, and many others for LGBTQIA people, and have given trainings on cultural competency and standards of care for trans people.

I believe CFC has a non-discrimination policy for sexual orientation and gender identity but I would have to check the handbook when I'm at work to make sure. It's considered a good place to be openly LGBT.

I do not treat couples or other relationships at this time. I have had ethically nonmonogamous in the past and am comfortable with this. I have had clients involved in kink or BDSM communities in the past and am comfortable with this.
